Sports for Peace serves as a platform for athletes from all over the world to come together to promote the values of sports, such as fair play, tolerance, the Olympic ideals of peace, freedom, and international and intercultural understanding.
Sports for Peace Honours the Greatest at the Gala of Champions in Paris
After honouring Muhammad Ali, the Greatest of All Time, at the 2012 London Olympics, Sports for Peace honoured the King of Athletes Carl Lewis and the most successful Olympian of all time Michael Phelps at the 2024 Paris Olympics in a momentous celebration of the Olympic ideals and the power of sports to create peace.

Glamorous Charity Event in Berlin Unites Sports Icons & Politicians for Democracy & Solidarity
On July 4, in Berlin, Sports for Peace brought together icons and leaders from the worlds of politics, sport and entertainment in honour of the fight for democracy and solidarity, and in celebration of the unifying power of sport. The German Football legend and European Championship tournament director Philipp Lahm aptly described its transformative capacities: "Football has the unique power to connect people worldwide and to convey values such as fair play and respect."
Such power is of vital significance in today’s world, and German Minister of Defense Boris Pistorius highlighted its relevance for facilitating respect and unity. He clearly asserted that "Peace at any price, even at the price of freedom, is not peace,"emphatically underscoring Germany’s continued commitment as the strongest European supporter of Ukraine in the fight against Russian aggression.
When the founder of Scoring Girls, Tugba Tekkal, took to the stage, she issued a profound wake-up call: "Words are followed by gestures, gestures are followed by deeds. We must act now!" Her emotional appeal against racism and extremism inspired a standing ovation.
A Global Farewell for Muhammad Ali
At the Opening Ceremony of the London Olympics 2012, Sports for Peace enabled the global farewell to Mohammed Ali - the Greatest Athlete of the Century - by flying him to London, and hosted a Gala for him and his six core values: Respect, Confidence, Conviction, Dedication, Giving and Spirituality. The reigning world champion in heavyweight boxing Wladimir Klitschko, Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton, Wimbledon Champion Boris Becker, Sir Christopher Lee, and Fatou Bensouda presented the Sports for Peace Honorary Award to their idol, Ali, in his last public appearance, presented by Sir David Frost ("Frost/Nixon"). Ali’s feelings were mirrored in his eyes with no control of his body anymore.
IAAF World Championships 2009
On the occasion of the 12th IAAF world championships in Berlin, Sports for Peace celebrated its official inauguration. IAFF Vice President and member of the International Olympic Committee Sergey Bubka and renowned worldwide ambassador for sports ethics Edwin Moses were awarded the first Sports for Peace awards.
Fifa World Cup 2010
Sports for Peace Gala in cooperation with the United Nations and the Nelson Mandela Foundation promoted the Millenium Development Goals and Universal Primary Education. The Chairs of the event included UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and President Jacob Zuma.
